Damar Laut - the little jetty opposite Lumut

on Thursday, 17 May 2012. Posted in Damar Laut

Off we drove via Segari road to Damar Laut. To our surprise, the journey was a dream come true for natural photographer enthusiasts. Plenty of greeny and winding stretch of road. Keep the windows down, feel the natural cooling breeze. At times, it was like driving to Fraser Hill, sans the hill climb.

IMG-damarlaut-02

Enthusiasts and drifters would love these roads...

IMG-damarlaut-03

And don't miss this contrast looking hill slopes...

IMG-damarlaut-04

After about 6kms from the junction of Jalan Changkat Keruing-Lumut (Segari), we finally saw this end of road signage. Yes, the end of road. Only a car could be seen parked at the jetty. Quiet jetty awaiting us to explore.

IMG-damarlaut-05

IMG-damarlaut-06

The jetty is 1000ft long and 8ft wide. Phew... it was going to be a long walk. Stainless steel bars prison look gave us a cold feel, no one was to be seen around. Pirates? Nay... watched too much movies...

IMG-damarlaut-07

Wow! Walking on water..err, reality check, walking on the jetty.
Both left and right view are just the same. Check!

IMG-damarlaut-08

IMG-damarlaut-09

I wanted to make a turnaround, looking back.

IMG-damarlaut-10

We are supposed to complete the entire walk and to take photos. No regrets.

IMG-damarlaut-11

Yes, we were at mid-way of the entire jetty. 500ft more to walk.

IMG-damarlaut-12

We could see light at the end of the tunnel.. err, I mean the end of the jetty.

IMG-damarlaut-13

The image was getting bigger as the end of jetty draws closer.

IMG-damarlaut-14

Finally, we managed to reach the platform at the end of the jetty. 100ft long, it felt like a mini performance platform floating on the sea. Mike please, ahem ahem. Back to reality, Lumut jetty was right infront, not too distant away.

IMG-damarlaut-15

We have no laser measurement tools but to rely on shouting on top of our lungs to fellows at the opposite Lumut jetty. By measuring the time for our voice to travel across, we conclude that the distance is far enough to get any favaourable reply! Nothing scientific but to get across, one should get a boat. Ha!

Roti Canai @ Kg Sitiawan

on Wednesday, 16 May 2012. Posted in Kg Sitiawan

Roti Canai - so tasty, crispy and well known for the past 22 years, right here at Kg Sitiawan. We started empty stomach this morning, all the way from Ipoh and arrived at Sitiawan by almost 10am. It was drizzling and typical roti canai with teh tarik illusions keep appearing over our heads.

IMG-kgstwroticanai-01

This signage made me hungrier as we are just about a km away. Quick! Hit that gas pedal dude! Breakfast is way overdue!

IMG-kgstwroticanai-02

Parking is not available, not anywhere I could find one empty space.

IMG-kgstwroticanai-03

Timing was just perfect. Someone was reversing and we quickly parked. I noticed everyone there was curious to see us, or was it the empty stomach noise alerted them?

IMG-kgstwroticanai-04

IMG-kgstwroticanai-05

This wooden structure with concrete flooring is built by the Kg Sitiawan river bank. Without any further delay, orders were made for Roti Telur and teh tarik. Within minutes, tadaa...

IMG-kgstwroticanai-06

IMG-kgstwroticanai-07

Only fish curry is available. Fresh and soft, simply tasty even without the curry!

IMG-kgstwroticanai-08

Enjoy the natural beauty of the river and surroundings. Total different than having roti canai within a concrete hall, buses and lorries honking away. No fumes, no dust. Just pure serene.

IMG-kgstwroticanai-09

Wanted to test whether fishes fancy some roti, but was not able to at all. There was just not enough of it for us anyway. Simply too tasty, beyond the normal roti canai that we used to have in concrete settings!

IMG-kgstwroticanai-10

The sifoo - professional roti canai maker - claims at peak hours, he needs to maintain production of 5pcs per minute, which churns out 300pcs an hour. This is true as on Saturdays and Sundays, the lady boss claims 1200pcs are being sold during the first four hours of operation, starting as early as 6.30am! Simply amazing!

IMG-kgstwroticanai-11

We had an hour free interview with the lady boss who is very humble and friendly, declined to be pictured and shared her experience for the past 22 years! Her customers come from all walks of life, all races and her roti actually being self exported to overseas!

More info of this Roti Canai discovery story here.

Main Road @ Pangkor Island

on Thursday, 17 May 2012. Posted in Pangkor Island

What else to expect from a tropical island other than hot weather, humid temperature and burning sensation? Well, along Main Road Pangkor Island, such elements have been identified and rectified by having this.

More details coming up..

Pangkor Island - here we come!

on Tuesday, 15 May 2012. Posted in Pangkor Island

It's a hot day! And it's not a holiday! Oh boy!

We arrived at the Marina Jetty Complex at 2.55pm. Rush, rush... parking space is abundant.

IMG-pangkor-01

Bought our tickets RM10 per person, luggage does not cost extra. One need to produce a Membership Card, easily available for RM10 per year (family based card - where a card is required to purchase several tickets). Yes, RM10 per round trip. The ticketing officer radioed the ferry to wait for us as the time was showing 3.00pm. We had to make a run (a walking stunt with few hops) as we do intend to wait for another hour for the next available ferry.

IMG-pangkor-02

The ferry operator must be amazed how we could run ( again is an art of hopping while walking ) with all the gadgets that we took along. Anyway, we managed to catch the ferry and relaxed for a 10 minute journey. The ferry delayed 5 minutes from schedule, due to our sudden appearance. Apologies to those who were on the ferry.

IMG-pangkor-03

Fully air-conditioned ferry with nothing fancy on board. Clean and cooling. No big LEDs, no 7.1 surround sound system. Anyhow, life jackets are plastic wrapped, new and unused. Of course, no intension to try them out, not this time. Exactly, 3.15pm, we arrived at Pangkor Jetty. Bye-bye relax cooling cabin, welcome hot sunny sweat humid walk again!

IMG-pangkor-04

One last look at the cozy ferry and the ultimate jetty walk. Only a few hundred metres but feels like a mile!

IMG-pangkor-05

I lost count of my steps but all of us agreed that the steps were more than a thousand steps. Of course, taking count of all our steps combined.

IMG-pangkor-06

Yea, Selamat Datang ke Pulau Pangkor!

IMG-pangkor-07

And we are walking towards Pangkor Island, as the Jeti Pangkor signage turns bigger.

IMG-pangkor-08

Pangkor Kopitiam - just besides the jetty. Too early for coffee!

IMG-pangkor-09

We like pink panther but personally, I never fancy pink vans. Anyway, we did not get any of these as we are supposed to walk to Main Road, which is only a stone's away.

IMG-pangkor-10

Right ahead is the grand fire station of Pangkor. We checked our gadgets and began our mission - Main Road Pangkor Island.... what a hot day to endure....

Teluk Senangin - lonely lovely beach

on Thursday, 17 May 2012. Posted in Teluk Senangin, Segari

Teluk Senangin, with mutiple chalets available is one of the beaches in Manjung. Lovely, clean beach but somehow lonely without visitors. We went around the nearby village too.

Hailam Village Seafood

on Thursday, 17 May 2012. Posted in Kg Acheh, Sitiawan

This 6 year old restaurant passed our acid test :: RM 45 for 3pax!

Located a little off the main road, 100m away from the intersection of Segari / Kg Acheh. When we arrvied, there were not many patrons as lunch hour has way passed.

IMG-hailam-02

IMG-hailam-01

We were friendly greeted and brought to an air-cond modest dining hall. We appreaciate the change of temperature as the outside weather was humid. Do note that until then, no one knew our intention. Waitress came and we told her to give us the menu. The moment she took note our RM40 budget acid test, she quickly called upon her boss.

IMG-hailam-03

A young guy in his late twenties, he who happens to be the chef came and understood our intentions. He recommended RM45 would be ideal for 3pax as a pot of complimentary chinese tea was thrown in.

IMG-hailam-04

Yes, we also noticed the ever popular Kg Koh Garlic Chili Sauce!

IMG-hailam-05

We reminded the chef @ boss not to cook extra or give special treatment as we would this to be the normal dish to be sold for next oncoming patrons. And within minutes, here is our first dish.

IMG-hailam-06

Lala (clamps) served in soup, super-tasty when it's hot!

Second dish, juicy meat - blackpepper deep fried meat

IMG-hailam-07

Here comes the third dish, Signature Beancurd

IMG-hailam-08

And lastly, the fourth dish Fried Sliced bittergourd with salted egg

IMG-hailam-09

All the dishes awaiting to be photographed. (while swallowing saliva)

IMG-hailam-10

We are not taste-buds experts but for RM45, this is great value with good quality food, plus cooling environment. Within minutes, our hungry like wolves nature took over.

IMG-hailam-11

Before we knew it, two bowls of additional rice, all that left to be captured were only empty plates and bowls.

!IMG-hailam-12

RM45 well spent... blurrrp!

Marina Island - a quick drive-thru ride

on Tuesday, 15 May 2012. Posted in Marina Island

About 700m after the intersection to Teluk Batik, here we are at the Main Entrance guardhouse of Marina Island.

IMG-marinaisland-01

As we slowed down, we noticed that there was no security at guard. We whizzed through happily. Perhaps the guard house is there for picture taking? Hmm...

IMG-marinaisland-02

No security guards means total freedom to take photos. We pulled to the road side on the bridge to capture this architecture piece. Ended up being honked from behind. Oh, there is actually a No Parking signage in front! Arghh..

IMG-marinaisland-03

After the bridge, there is this little roundabout. We followed the crowd by taking a turn at 3 o'clock. Most shoplots are still empty. This place is quiet and newly developed. It should be populated soon.

IMG-marinaisland-04

Not far upfront, the jetty building is in view. Lots of cars parked neatly at the designated parking space.

IMG-marinaisland-05

Most of the tourist must have gone over to Pangkor Island. Fancy one of these ?

IMG-marinaisland-06

Since this is a quick drive-thru, we manage to snap the unique lamp posts along our way out of the Marina Island.

IMG-marinaisland-07

We strongly believe the view would have been more magnificient during the night. Not to mention the fact that the above pictures were taken at super-amateur level with a super-duper cheap mobile phone from inside tthe car. We will make a comeback for a more detailed walk-around trip!

We also notice Mr Cendol, Secret Recipe and a few souvenier outlets at the jetty. Will check them out!
